Damage

Damage is the amount of hit points removed from a target if an attack is successful, penetrating armor class and blocking. It is made up of two parts, character damage and weapon damage. Each is calculated separately and added together for the final damage. Character damage varies between character class and weapon used.

The amount of character damage:

bow damage =  (str*clvl)/200   (warrior/sorcerer)
(str+dex) * clvl/200   (rogue)

melee damage =  (str*clvl)/100   (warrior/sorcerer)
(str+dex) * clvl/200   (rogue)

Weapon damage is calculated in two parts - minimum damage and maximum damage from the weapon. The base damage of the weapon is first modified by any +% damage modifiers (4-8 dmg +150% becomes 10-20 dmg). Next, any direct damage modifiers ("of slaughter" series) are added to both the min and max values. For bare hands/feet weapon damage is 1-1; for shields weapon damage is 1-3. Character damage and weapon damage are added together to get the final damage.

Damage Modifiers

Aside from modifiers that directly affect weapon damage, there are some elements that affect total damage done.

  • Critical hit - Warriors have a chance for a critical hit which will double the total damage done. The chance to score a critical hit is clvl%.
  • +200% damage to demons - This modifier triples the total damage to demon type enemies (check Jarulf's Guide for enemy types). It can be found on the Civerb's Cudgel and the Deadly Hunter (doesn't work on bows).
  • Monster type - Swords do 150% total damage to animals and only 50% total damage to undead. Clubs do 150% total damage to undead and only 50% total damage to animals. Neither do additional damage to demons.

Damage Reduction

There are several circumstances in which the amount of damage recieved is reduced depending on the source. Below is a list of damage reducing effects and the order that they are applied

  • "of Thieves" - reduces trap damage by half.
  • "- Damage from enemies" - reduces the damage from both melee and ranged attacks done by the specified amount. Mulitple sources are added together and can not be reduced below 1. This effect does not work versus players.
  • Player v. player - all magical damage from other players is reduced by half.
  • Resistances - resistance to a certain type of magical attack will reduce the damage of that attack by the percent specified. MAX resistance is 75%.
  • Mana shield - reduces all damage by 33%.
